Making Pocket Knife Memories
by pen knives on Jul.22, 2009, under Pocket Knives
It seems like I’m not the only one who graduated to a penknife or pocket knife when I turned a certain age.
My friends over at eBladeStore.com changed their pocketknife landing page to include the cinematic memory of “Today you are a man.”
I can appreciate that firsthand, and I’m excited to hand down some of the knives I have in my garage drawer to my son (or sons or daughters, I can’t be too sure what because my wife is now pregnant with TWINS, so I could have sons, daughters or one of each by the time 2010 rolls around).
The strange thing about handing down pocketknives is that by itself it’s a traditional form of recycling!
All of these hippies coming out of the woodwork to claim their dedication to the earth with their environmental hibbidydooda and saving of the rain forests, I will stand firm in keeping the knives I’ve received as hand-me-downs continually handing down the food chain. Hopefully one day my spawn will patiently chop down his very first tree with a knife that my father was given when he turned 8 years old.
I can see it now:

There’s a storm on the horizon, gas has just reached $7.99 a gallon, milk is now tainted with cheese dust from cheetos, Israel and Palestine made up and now live in a country called New New Jersey, and I’m handing my son his very first blade…
“Son, go rip some crap to shreds, it’s about time you learned to respect your ability to destroy things. Only then can you build a bridge out of this hell hole.”
Screw an XBox, buy your kid some Pocket Knives
