My two favorite tools to find the deals I’m looking for are Amazon.com and Google.com. If you google anything general, you’ll get millions of hits, but if you search for more specific items, you’ll be suprised at the amount of other people out there looking for the same things you are.

Also, using Amazon and Google together is a perfect way to start your search for the perfect knife.

Follow these steps to acquire your latest blade:

1. Go to amazon and search under knives. I learned from a friend to misspell things just a little bit to see what alternatives you might be better off searching under. As you can see, “knive” results in the recommended “knives” not “knife” – CLICK HERE FOR THIS SEARCH. Combat knives look pretty boss, let’s dive further.
2. From this search page, type in “combat knives” and take a look at some of the brand names that are available as a starting point in your research. Gerber & SOG are two names that I see pretty often over the next few pages.
3. Let’s move to google.com and search “SOG specialty knives“
4. Normally whatever brand of knife you are searching for will have their homepage listed first or second and you can see the rest of their knife lines. Check out what you like on their sites then search again with the particular model number or name.
5. That Power Assist EOD looks DAMN AWESOME, let’s search that followed by SOG so we get what we’re looking for and not other types of awesome.
6. The shopping results a few links down the page shows you three places to buy the exact knife we’re looking at, and the vendor where it’s for sale. If you take a few more seconds and poke around you can find smaller websites that post in-depth reviews of the knives, such as TacticalReviewGroup.com (dope website!).
7. Pick a reputable online company with secured credit card check out if you want to buy online, or think of some of the local outdoor sports stores in your area and consider buying in person. I always try and buy from the little guy before going big box, so dig a little bit, and save someone’s day with a friendly transaction.

Much to my dismay, a friend showed me HIS own personal transformer in the form of a knife/multiblade that had me googooing for hours. I doubt its usefulness could make up for the all-too-real possibility of losing a finger while chopping up a carrot, but HOT DAMN do these things look futuristically prehistoric. Rather than a handle of any merit, the blade is matched in size and shape on the opposite side by a ceramic duplicate, creating a teardrop blade that would look doooope on my Batman Belt.

My friends over at eBladeStore.com changed their pocketknife landing page to include the cinematic memory of “Today you are a man.”
I can appreciate that firsthand, and I’m excited to hand down some of the knives I have in my garage drawer to my son (or sons or daughters, I can’t be too sure what because my wife is now pregnant with TWINS, so I could have sons, daughters or one of each by the time 2010 rolls around).

The strange thing about handing down pocketknives is that by itself it’s a traditional form of recycling!

All of these hippies coming out of the woodwork to claim their dedication to the earth with their environmental hibbidydooda and saving of the rain forests, I will stand firm in keeping the knives I’ve received as hand-me-downs continually handing down the food chain. Hopefully one day my spawn will patiently chop down his very first tree with a knife that my father was given when he turned 8 years old.

ll over the internet lurk computer generated websites that are as flaky as the adwords you sometimes see on websites that have absolutely nothing to do with the actual content on the page. It’s funny, it’s sad, but it’s also pretty easy to spot.

A week ago I was doing some reading on different ways of sharpening the different knives I have around my house and garage and I kept finding these horrible recommendations on purchasing HUGE and more often than not EXPENSIVE sharpening systems.

Why would I sharpen a $20 knife on a $100 sharpener? Does that make any sense?

Regardless, I typed in KNIFE SHARPENING TIPS and happened upon KnifeSharpeningTips.com – HOLY WOWSERS!

I don’t know the dude, but I read his site quite a bit, and you should too!

Wear leather gloves while changing!

I’m intrigued.

I’m curious.

I’m pretty confident I want one of these and a better health insurance policy.

I love Gerber’s packaging and blade strength, but for finger’s sake, buy three knives or BE FRICKIN CAREFUL! Every knife I’ve ever received or purchased has cut me a few times in the first few days, but imagine the potential for pain when showing off this puppy with each of its three different knives.

I like the idea, I just know myself a little better than to purchase something like this and not end up like Jerry Garcia.

We have always shared an interest in hooked blades, but never got around to purchasing one because most hook knives are fixed blades and oftentimes bigger than our legal 4 inch restrictions and on the expensive and “when would i ever use this” side of the coin. That all changed when he showed me the COPTOOL from Triple Eight.

WuTang Fans: Tac-TICAL!

Like I’ve previously said, TheAwesomer.com has dope schtuff and will occasionally put up a quick review of a DOPE ASS KNIFE!

They did it again today with KA-BAR’s Becker TacTool. About $140.00 USD and a little over 1lb. just imagine kicking serious tactical ass with this badboy. Not only that, but I could see myself repelling from a pirate ship’s sail with the hook blade if I needed to. RIGHT SLOTH?!

Stunning Presentation. TASTE'S LIKE FREEDOM!

I’ve attempted to purchase one on an ebay auction.

I’ve never held one in my hands, but I’m now putting the images found on their websites into my internal memory bank for future fantasies.

I have never considered buying a fixed blade, but after staring at the A.D.O. (Alpha Detachment Operative) model for a few weeks, I am seriously a hair’s width away from making the change from steak knives to a rack of A.D.O.’s in my kitchen.

So I’ve entered into a new phase of my life: knifeporn! Knives shot with just the right lighting can be almost as attractive as a woman on a freshly waxed pickup holding a juicy burger containing a fried egg, applewood smoked bacon and a gift certificate to Gander Mountain!!

AAAAAAHHHHH!

Today is no different.

I just used a penknife to pry back the hose clip on an auto siphon while siphoning homebrewed beer into a carboy. I had both hands full and my knife in my mouth and just as I was about to lose the flow on my siphon, I took the knife out of my mouth with my right hand, secured the siphon stick with my left hand inside the primary fermenter, and carefully used the non blade side to lessen the pressure on the hose going into my secondary.

That might sound confusing to someone who doesn’t brew their own beer from time to time, or isn’t experienced with an auto siphon.  But rather than needing three hands in the future, I slowly and meticulously inserted the non-blade side of my penknife into the clamp and pushed forward giving my hose more room to drain my primary.

After every election I wait and see which of my freedoms will be challenged next. I didn’t feel like my privacy was being invaded when I was told my phones were tapped and my library activities were being documented. Both of those seemed like good ideas, and since I don’t often plan bombings on the phone or borrow books on explosives or Jihad, I figured those were accpetable means with which to protect our population from doom.

But my penknife?

My beloved pocket knives?

The one in my fifth pocket, the one in my center console, the one clipped to my visor in my truck and the one in my desk drawer – all threats to national security NOW when I’m not allowed to carry a gun in my state either.

If I can’t open a beer bottle with a gun like Homer Simpson, NOW I can’t pop it open with my knife either!

Mister President, do something else with my tax dollars please, or I’ll carve my frustrations into the nearest Oak tree!

- Regardless of the length of your trip, learn this mantra for traveling with your penknives: If I won’t use it, leave it at home. If I will use it, JUST CHECK IT! Carrying on anything resembling a weapon is stupid. You aren’t stupid.

A distinguishing factor in whether a knife would be considered a novelty is how cheap it really is. Cheap construction, chincey hand feel, very light weight and possibly made by the thousands with the name of your local Elks Club printed on it are all good indicators that you are in fact holding a knife not made for actual performance.

Sure a cheapy knife might last you a few years if never used and kept in a safe place, so if you are looking for a knife with those standards, the Dollar Store and gas stations might have what you are looking for. If you are looking for a pocket knife that would be considered useful AND cool, you seriously have to consider going rogue.

Check out TBO’s Self Defense Products section and find the “keychain knife” to see what I’m talking about. A knife that isn’t actually a knife unless used as a knife! It’s a knife undercover! AAHH!

The cool thing about actual penknives is that the pen isn’t just for show! Most of the affordable penknives are actual pens with actual knives!

ACTUALLY AWESOME!

Some online vendors also stock the refills for the writing half of the penknife in bulk, so you could buy a penknife with a slim blade, and use it at work and no one will know!

With all of a regular pocketknife’s uses, the penknives that contain both a pen and a knife are actually quite handy around the office. Letter opener, fresh bag of potato chips slicer, banana dicer, loose string on your shirt trimmer, dirty fingernail cleaner or a perfect missle for a foam drop ceiling with no pencil holes; your imagination is your only limiting factor.

While they make better tools than self defense products, they are categorized in general as a self defense item, so defend against boredom!

I knew where to go for help.

My Grandpa, my Uncle and my Dad all carried penknives. Every day of every season, from the time I was old enough to remember until now, they always had a tool in their pockets to either pry something open for one of us kids or to make their lives easier.

Penknives, pocket knives, folding knives and switchblades were around everywhere I went from the time of infancy until the time I earned my first penknife. Having been around them my whole life, I have never seen a pocketknife in a negative light or to be used as a weapon.

One of my penknives is always in my right pocket, or fifth pocket if I’m wearing jeans, and it has become a staple of my “must have items” along with my wallet and my bandanna.
